Everyone understands how flying can often be very overwhelming. It’s a real hassle that requires a lot of time and commitment, from scheduling the flights to loading up to getting dressed. When anyone goes on holiday and treats themselves, nevertheless, it becomes an enjoyable adventure. It can be something fresh and fun, having somewhere pleasant to chill and find a new location. Emmit was looking forward to it. He really didn’t realize he was going to have a rough time traveling to his destination.
The Words Were Out
Emmit had no idea that somebody could ruin it all for him as he was ready to fly. The sentences left his mouth before he was able to catch himself. For a while now, the woman had been threatening him, and he had had enough. She was struck like a ton of bricks by the words he spoke, causing her recoil, feeling scandalized. But how dare she act like this? He just said what everyone felt. Both the people around them steadily start to clap. Why could this crisis have deteriorated too rapidly?
You should understand how overwhelming the entire process can be if you’ve only been to an airport and flown at least once in your own life. With delayed planes, lengthy queues, and missing baggage, it’s no joke that people become quickly irritated. But Emmit didn’t want something that day to get him down. He had already saved up for months on this journey, and he also wanted to splurge on a first-class ticket as a birthday treat. He didn’t know anything a woman entitled was about to spoil her day.
Emmit went to the Dominican Republic. During the last weeks, he worked extra hard to ensure that his workload was cleaned up. He also arranged to go out the day before his birthday so that he would have ample time to enjoy and rest when he returned. He designed and trained for nearly any situation. Only for the nastiness he was about to experience. He had not expected.
As he stood in the queue, Emmit hummed his feet and clicked. Everything was fine. Life was good. He did everything for himself and reaped the fruits of his diligent work. Working as a music executive in the studio required long hours, but it was worth it right now. He couldn’t wait to relax with a lot of required R&R. He had no idea anyone was going to come to tear anything away.
A Voice Behind
He stared at the line calmly, almost too hard to handle in preparation for his flight. He noticed a noisy sound come from behind, though he sensed someone struggling to get by him. “Sorry… Excuse me…” said the voice. He turned around to figure out what this lady needs, not understanding that he is about to face his life.
The woman blatantly showed Emmit a once-about glance at him, steadily and intentionally, soaking it in. In her own opinion, he was obviously not supposed to be there in the same lines as her. She aimed her chin at the sign that the line was reserved for first-class flyers. She spits out the confounding terms. Her mouth was like a sneer. Emmit has really been mystified.
“I think you might be in the wrong place,” said the lady. However, she ordered Emmit to quit the line before he could contradict her and claim that he was traveling first-class. She decided to get before him with a rude scream, “Let’s go through.” Emmit tried to keep quiet and spread the scenario. What was wrong with this woman?
Emmit stared at this lady and felt lost. He clarified politely that he was supposed to be in this line. Yet she persisted, “I think you may be in the wrong spot. You have to let us pass. This line is a priority booking.” She also attempted to conceal the condescending sound of her speech. Emmit was attempting to reason with her. “First-class priority, right? “The lady also wanted to let go of this. Emmit’s going to realize what she was actually trying to mean soon enough.
Keeping The Peace
“Yeah,” the lady screamed, “Excuse me now. After we board, you’ll name both of them.” This was when Emmit first got lost. Why was this lady so convinced that he was waiting in the wrong direction? Why did she make him singled out? He started to get frustrated. He took his ticket out of his pocket and showed him to the woman to indicate that he would be. Though he owed her no reason, he felt that it would bring an end to the debate. But he was incorrect. He was wrong.
Making A Scene
The lady seemed utterly outraged. She sighed and told her friends clearly, to make sure Emmit will understand her too. She moaned passively, defensively, “He has to be military or anything.” “But we paid our seats, so he still had to wait.” Emmit couldn’t trust what she meant. He didn’t want to trigger a scene at the airport, though. He tried to think of reasons for her actions. Obviously, she believed that a first-class fare could not afford. Is she actually implying what she was thinking?
Emmit had a clear understanding at this stage of the matter and what the woman was attempting to suggest. But he did not like to think that she judged him because of the color of his face. How will anyone who felt he was a second-class citizen be in today’s age? He couldn’t really accept that. Nevertheless, he did not want to draw rash claims or judgments. He began to devise himself a second time. Perhaps the woman didn’t mean to meet that way. Yet the more he felt, the more unbelievable he got.
He politely clarified that he was standing in line first and he wouldn’t pass. Like everyone else, she will have to wait. Maybe she was also under tension for the flight? He did not think so. He did not think so. Looking at the lady’s disrespectful clothes, she did not seem like she was really dressed either. He didn’t want to conclude, but he couldn’t prevent it. His reaction is what the whole room had to clap for him.
Who Do You Think You Are?
Emmit went back to the woman claiming, “Nope, too big for anybody’s army Actually. He never booked a top-class ticket in the first place because of his broad size. The seat would give him a convenient room for traveling. With his thinking going, he realized that it would not be enough to position the woman in her spot until he left his mouth. Who was she going to challenge his right to be there?
Elephant In The Room
In any event, armed servicemen and women don’t get free first-class tickets. Why was this woman trying to rationalize how he might afford such an African-American man? Why was it still her business? By this stage, the crowd started to assemble. Others sought to see what the chaos was, whilst the rest had more to do. Emmit wouldn’t fool them. Everything just broke inside him.
In Her Place
Emmit returned to the privileged lady, and the entire room clapped what he said next. The lady had to be cleaned up because he was the one to do so. Even though Emmit was not by default a confrontation, he had to stand up for himself. He fired a comment at the lady, and she looked like his comments reached her face. Her eyes grew with incredulity as she recoiled.
Calling Her Out
Emmit assured the lady he wasn’t in the army. He wasn’t. He’s just an African-American guy with money. Just his vocabulary contained a slur that would lead the point home. The crowd cheered and chanted, glad Emmit answered and liked the response of the lady. But the plot hasn’t finished yet.
Taking A Stand
Emmit stood squarely in front of everyone against bigotry. The woman obviously earned it. He also posted the story on Facebook and waited for none other than his buddies to see it. He didn’t realize too well that the condition was going to be reversed. He will have to withdraw what he said soon.
In two days, more than 250,000 times, the post of Emmit had been posted. Over 300,000 individuals posted it at this period. Hundreds of comments came and lauded Emmit’s reaction to the gross actions of the lady. “Never judge a book by its cover,” wrote one columnist. “She’s so naive that it does not make sense that there are still people like her. Good luck, you did it well, But Emmit will regret it fast enough.
As Emmit arrived at his destination, the article had gone viral already. He couldn’t believe how much it was posted and how often people reflected on it. There were so many people all around the world who admired his acts. Instead of being enthusiastic about the commercial, Emmit was terrified.
He figured his article was popular for the wrong purposes. “This racist thing is certainly a problem, but it’s not the solution,” he wrote later. He had plenty of time to reflect on what happened on his trip. He realized he had everything to do with it.
“It doesn’t bring me any joy to wake up to paradise,” he said. On his thirty-seventh birthday, the day he was to rejoice, he figured out that another guy was going through hell. Some people believed that his initial article was false. It was about time that these individuals were also discussed.
The High Road
“The story was certainly real just like this problem is certainly real, but I now know that I should have handled it in some other way, or left it in the way it was and did not share it publicly.” In this case, it was time to be the stronger guy.
Right And Wrong
“When dealing with people, I always try to stay on the side of Right, so to make sure I never do anybody wrong, I always try to put myself in that person’s shoes and ask how would I feel if that person did this to me,” Emmit wrote on his Instagram account. “And if I were her this morning, I would be a total wreck today, and that doesn’t help this situation, or her… it only makes them angrier and brings more drama…” He decided to make things right.
“SO I WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE AGAIN TO THE WOMAN I HAD THIS ENCOUNTER WITH YESTERDAY. NO MATTER HOW WRONG YOUR ACTIONS YOU DON’T DESERVE THIS,” He wrote in all caps. “I BELIEVE IF YOU CAN’T HELP NOBODY AT THE VERY LEAST YOU SHOULD NEVER DO ANYTHING TO HURT THEM.” Sadly, his apology was not acknowledged by the lady. If Emmit had a choice to do so that day, he would prefer to be a positive influence, but the woman did not really merit it.
