Better Not To Know
She refused to elaborate on why she refused to serve him. He did not join the queue for 45-minutes to be handled like this. But because of this, he was almost surely not used to being talked back to or being looked at like this – no one should ever be. She didn’t seem to have any clue as to who he really was or what power he had at his fingertips; it was self-evident indeed. So he can’t wait to see her face when she finds out.
A Much Needed Day Off
For Karl Baker, it was a day off from work that had been deemed necessary. Having worked many 12-hour shifts, he was quite prepared to take a break and relax. He’d already arranged his day out. He was about to sleep in, eat out, explore the city, and wrap up the day lounging in front of the TV with just a drink in his hand. However, things are not what was originally planned.
Baker woke up hopping on his bed with his dog, the sun was shining on his face, and it was already lunchtime. He got ready, started pouring himself a cup of coffee, and thought about where he might go to have a good brunch. Decided, he jumped in his car and began to head for a restaurant he hadn’t previously been to on the outskirts of town. That was a choice he would have dreaded afterward.
Joining The Line
They began to look upon him with absolute disdain. It had been a long time since Baker had been confronted with some utter disregard. His chosen profession normally managed to keep him from being so badly treated, but no one here knew who he really was. Baker walked in and decided to join the line at the restaurant. His hunger began to grow as he looked at the menu on the wall, just like the time he had been waiting in line.
His pick had long been limited down to two meals. In several aspects, Baker was wonderful, although, in one way, he had always been renowned for just being a picky eater. He was selective, to say the least, so when he decided on a dinner, he had great expectations that his research would actually pay off. He was convinced that it would be good enough to wait in line to justify the 45-minute wait. He was entirely wrong.
Waiting For A Long Time
Despite waiting almost an hour to place an order, Baker was a patient customer. Nevertheless, and rather quickly, this particular trait was pushed beyond the edge. As he was hungry and excited, Baker arrived with his money in hand. However, what quickly followed would have been very confusing for him.
Not A Good Day
Baker respectfully welcomed the cashier, who welcomed him back with an appearance strongly resembling frustration and perhaps irritation. She had been munching gum and obviously looked as if she was not having a decent day. Even so, he insisted on smiling while ordering his meals. He understood that life was not always rainbows and apple drops because Baker absolutely loved making people smile when he could. It was definitely not for this employee, though.
Baker was in a state of shock after hearing her say that she couldn’t produce the product he ordered. He was unhappy with the choice, but there were other options. At the last minute, he switched to his second choice, and the option was unavailable. Confused, he asked for the only other meal he wanted. She rolled her eyes again, repeating herself.
Now, he was irritated. He was spending so much time queuing up for food that has been highlighted under today’s special offers in chalk. He would not have had to stand in line if he had known that these special meals were not available. And also, her implacable attitude had no beneficial outcome. He still hindered his discontent and started asking if there were any left off the list.
You Need To Leave
Again, she started to roll her eyes and looked at him how she would claim that his question was stupid. Now, the behavior was just too much, primarily when their misleading advertising was involved. He had many things to say. However, before he can even open his mouth, it was as if she were reading his thoughts. “Listen, mister, if you’re not going to order, you need to leave,” she snarled.
Making A Scene
“That’s it!” thought Baker. He stayed in place and then said nonchalantly, “Can I speak to your manager?” She turned around without saying a word and yelled at the back of the kitchen. She stares back at Baker, and then after that, a woman comes out. She begins to look at Baker and then at the people in line behind him, “What’s the problem here, sir? You’re holding up the people behind you.”
Baker saw where the behaviors came from. He recognizes that the task will be tough and challenging. He ignored the demeaning accusation that he was the cause of ridiculous lines and attempted to explain to her the validity of his observations and what exactly was going on at her establishment. Her comment was surprising.
They Laughed Instead
After that, a female cook who was on the line began shouting at Baker, “You better pull me off the line because I’m not serving him,” He held back the urge to speak up until his manager started laughing. Baker acted calmly and told the people politely to treat their clients or dire consequences better.
Men Like Him
As Baker expected, she didn’t want to listen to his recommendation. “I understand that things didn’t go your way today, sir, but that’s life. Now, if you could kindly remove yourself from my establishment. I don’t serve men like you,” she scoffed. “Men like me?!” Baker responded incredulously. What was it that she meant by ‘men like him’?
Enough Is Enough
Baker has enough. He no longer played the role of Mr. Nice Guy. He persuaded her by reinforcing his objective and guaranteeing that he was pacifying her for her own benefit. Now, he requested that she explain what she implied by “men like him.” But what she did next will end up clearing up any remaining doubts about retaliation in his mind.
Don’t Look Down On Me
She seemed to be both cold-faced and arrogant. “I don’t need to explain what I meant to anyone. Get on out now before you cause a scene,” she told him. He was completely shocked that they disobeyed this kind of order. As well, he was not used to not having people look down on him.
Without His Uniform
It was evident that she didn’t know who he was or the capabilities he had at his disposal; she was clueless. He often figured strolling around without his uniform was a great way to see what people were really like. And it succeeded in proving this. It really was pretty obvious to Baker that she wasn’t going to talk to him like an older person. He felt totally mistreated and mocked as bystanders started taking notice.
He started looking around at a few of the ears and eyes that paid him interest. As he came to realize, almost everyone was staring at him in the restaurant, his face turning red. He did not even recognize anybody there, but he began to wonder if some of the customers had identified him. They certainly wouldn’t even assume that a restaurant would have the audacity to address him like this if they did.
Won’t Let It Go Unpunished
Baker decided to leave without receiving anything more than he ordered. He was outraged, frustrated, and embarrassed by their conduct, and therefore took action as a direct result. In the uniform that acknowledged everyone with respect, he would overlook the disturbing beginning of his day and come back to come to terms with this awful experience tomorrow at his usual working hours. What will they say?
Man In Uniform
Baker came dressed as a police chief and then returns to work the next day. He had many things to do and work on. He had been preoccupied, but he had promised himself he would call the restaurant a day after tomorrow and reveal his true face. He just can not sit tight to have seen them in their boots, trembling.
With His Uniform On
Baker stopped by the restaurant on his way home from a meeting at the restaurant. Bleating to find a parking place, he pulled up his patrol car and entered the building. His expression looked strict. The aura of his appearance filled the whole restaurant with tension. Baker was a big, burly man, and he projected power from the formal uniform he wore.
They were all looking at him with such proper reasons in mind. He approached them with smiling faces, honor, and a keen desire. The expressions of all the staff and the checkout person, who has been quite dense so far, have surprisingly lightened up. She greeted him with an expression of shock that quickly evolved into one of surprise. Still speaking baldly, he requested the manager.
Where’s The Manager?
The cashier appealed to the manager for help. She started walking to the back kitchen door, but she yelled the moment she saw someone. Then it seemed she conducted herself in a more refined manner. Baker, standing with one hand on his hip and a radio in the other. For obvious reasons, he played the part. Especially as his radio call bleeped with officer notifications, he waited for her to see her show up.
It Went Viral
At the moment, though, a different manager was working. She was, however, quite angry by what Baker attempted to tell her and apologized immediately. She agreed to publish a review of her former employee’s policy violation. Following reports from bystanders, the story managed to make it into social networking sites for a moment. The restaurant released a statement addressing the incident.
They Did Not Deny
A representative for the restaurant did not attempt to deny the allegations when asked more about the officer’s disturbing treatment. She explained that Baker had described events as he claims. The restaurant was surprised to learn that a law enforcement officer had been disrespected and agreed to look into the matter. But would it really be sufficient?
“I don’t know why the offended officer doesn’t sue for $150,000. This is NO DIFFERENT than the Oregon bakery’s refusing to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. Discrimination is discrimination!” an enraged reader decided to write, while another took a more rational view. “We are working with the appropriate authorities and local police association representatives to get to the bottom of and resolve this matter as quickly as possible,” added in a statement.
Trying To Save Face
“We have made efforts to reach out to the police officer involved but have not yet spoken with him. We will continue to look into the situation and will take the appropriate actions after this review.” Despite the establishment’s urge to save face, the story immediately began doing all the cycles on Twitter and Facebook to the uproar of thousands of users.
“I don’t know why the offended officer doesn’t sue for $150,000. This is awful behavior that can easily be considered a breach of customer rights,” said one enraged reader, while another took a more principled view. “If I were a cop, I’d be way less concerned about these people who are openly anti-police than I would about what someone quietly harboring resentment and handling my food.”
Representatives from the Alexandria Police Union applauded the restaurant for how well it handled the situation. Still, the damage had already been done when the restaurant rushed outside to place banners. He stated that Baker “handled the situation perfectly” and detached himself from the situation by ending the altercation. However, he stated that he was shocked that this event occurred in Alexandria because the police force is usually seen as doing their job well.
No Turning Back
However, none of Feltham’s statements appeased the public’s anger or justified his words. Many thousands of comments have been left on the restaurant’s Facebook page, grumpily complaining of the boycott and encouraging other customers to join it as well. There were discussions on social media regarding the looting and what to do about it. Baker decided to define his stance on this matter clearly.
Two Wrongs Do Not Make A Right
He stated that he is not in favor of ‘cancel culture,’ and neither does he want to see the restaurant’s criminal activity result. He gives absolutely no support to anyone trying to bring down the establishment. “Take the high road!” he said. “The actions of a few do not equate to the actions of many.” Doing things twice and/or repeatedly doesn’t necessarily make it right.
After getting so much negative feedback, the restaurant refocused its efforts on the promise that it made. Just a few days after the Washington Post report, they made a public statement. “In a statement, the company said that ‘the views and actions of these individuals’ were ‘inexcusable’ and do not reflect those of the company or the rest of the staff at the Duke Street location,” said the source.
Resulted To Dismissal
“We have concluded the two team members in question acted inappropriately, and we immediately terminated their employment,” the establishment stated in the follow-up statement. “We have the utmost respect for law enforcement officials and value the relationship we have built with the local Alexandria Police Department over the years.”
Going Out Of Their Way
Baker was tracked by the night manager and the restaurant to apologize for the three employees’ horrifying behavior and fully intend to go out of their way to make it evident that they supported law enforcement. The Mayor even saw the circumstance of Alexandria. She expressed the “full-throated apology of the company for this unfortunate situation.” that the company issued for the problem. How would other law enforcement members feel about the problem?
What Did The Others Say?
“Well, your first response as a police officer is anger,” the police chief told the station. “These are tough times right now with our relations with everyone, and to have one of my officers treated in that manner unnecessarily – your first response is anger, then you calm down a bit.” When she saw a similar incident taking shape, a waitress decided to step in.
“Suck It Up”
Britanny can feel the anger that is forming inside her. She just can’t believe that a rude person like that exists. She didn’t ask for it. All along, these people were trying to get her to agree with them. She had gone to the manager but had just been told to suck it up. How is this happening to her?.
A few years back, Brittany Spencer worked at a restaurant, and she knew all the latest tricks. In Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, either a non-specific individual or one from any background would gather at Fat Joe’s Bar & Grill. But when an elderly couple entered the waiting room, she ignored their appearance at first.
They Looked Around The Diner
When they sat down, their gestures started to change. Immediately, Brittany realized that it would be challenging. With great frustration, the couple entered the restaurant as if caught in a terrible nightmare. This wasn’t, reasonably enough, a Michelin star diner, but the food is great.
She Smelled Something Awful
Brittany had dismissed her first observations. She thought she might also make them laugh with her charming personality. And yet, she had no clue how entirely wrong she had been. She approached them and also decided to offer the menus. There wasn’t a hello back when she decided to hand them menu options. The lady crinkled her nose as if she had smelled something nasty. This table was going to be a hard one.
Laughing At Another Customer
While standing away, she saw the pair laughing at a client at the edge of the restaurant when she turned around. The focus of their bile was a frequent and very friendly client.
In Deep Discussion
The pair were in deep discussion, and Brittany felt their eyes on her as they did it. Brittany’s ears twitched, and she listened to the conversation. When she learned what they were saying, it greatly disrupted her. How can they subject someone they don’t even know to such a thing?.
As Brittany went to them to begin receiving their request, they decided to ask her what she thought of the “other client” If she thought it was as horrible and disgusting as they obviously did, they questioned Brittany, also asking why anyone like that would be allowed anywhere near the diner. Their old faces were filled with nothing other than disagreeable judgment.
“I Can’t Serve You”
“Sorry, but I can’t serve you. And I disagree with what you said,” she replied to the elderly couple before walking away from them. She didn’t simply leave it at that, though, and started asking her supervisor if she could then allocate it to another employee. However, situations were evolving to become even more complicated.
“Suck It Up Or Go Home”
Her manager kept refusing, basically having to tell her that she should “suck it up or go home.” Because Brittany realized she could not start serving the table with customers who had such terrible views on a human being. She opened the door, then swept through it. But when the outcome was near, the consequences escalated.
Everybody Is On Her Side
Brittany revealed what went on that night with her friend on Facebook after she arrived home. People responded by commending Brittany for having the courage to stand up, which gained her many supporters. Brittany responded with relief as she turned off her laptop and tucked it away into her bed. Everybody is on her side, she thought.
She Was Fired
The very next day, management told Brittany that she had been dismissed! Exploding with rage, she snatched her laptop and immediately proceeded to Facebook. She updated everyone on the dreadful development. The reactions were intense. “But I’ll always choose my morals over money. See ya!” she indicated. But the owners of the restaurant do have very opposing viewpoints.
Neutral Approach Didn’t Work
The restaurant’s owner stated that Brittany had been dismissed due to her insistence on remaining unemployed and refusing to go and do the work she was appointed to do. She felt that she heard certain viewpoints that she disagreed with within her years in the industry, but she still did her job. Apparently, the stormy waters were riled by their neutral approach.
Brittany and others said that it turned a blind eye to allow racism to occur with little or no response in your institution, which she perceives to be the same as simply stating one’s own hurtful things. Nevertheless, Brittany still believes she made the right decision. As to the diner’s present circumstances as well as principles?
Continue The Same Approach
Feel free to leave a review on Facebook, Fat Joe’s Bar, and Grill. Brittany ended her post with: “Please feel free to leave a review on their Facebook page, Fat Joe’s Bar and Grill.” They began to get too much hatred, and their Facebook page had to be temporarily removed, but it’s up again. The situation made headlines not long after. A few protests quickly made the situation more noticeable. Even if this incident didn’t significantly impact operations, they decided to proceed with the same approach. But there was one crucial detail they missed, which was by many people.
Just Taking The Order
Brittany behaved professionally by politely asking for a change, which is not a very difficult request. The manager’s initial response reveals the mentality towards their staff member’s convenience and the attitude regarding customers trying to force their viewpoints on someone who just wants to take a simple order. What would the Wallanders have to say to the owner?
