When they watched the film, they saw what the wolf had been doing the whole time. Before it run off to the woods, it took a moment to look at John. They are not sure if it is trying to thank John and communicate its gratitude.

What John Really Feels
This situation when John released the Timber wolf from the trap showed how he really felt about timberwolves. Now he knew that they could be as annoying as any coyotes who messed around the woods.

The usual behavior and perhaps meal of the Timber wolves are often wild animals and livestock. There are times that they do it to agitate and frighten pets. John already knew this because he knew a lot of cases where wolves are going after domestic animals. However, he still respected that he was in the wolf’s territory.
