This teenage collector was sincerely interested in the painting that he had bought recently from a junk auction. He bought it for only two dollars, and yet somehow, he started feeling that it had more value than the eye could see. He claimed he’d get quite a bit of money out of it. He did not know its real value, however. That’s why when he decided to get it evaluated by an art expert, he was shocked. Everyone was amazed to find out who painted it, actually.
A Very Special Interview
The cameras began rolling for a particular show one day in 2013. David Weiss was a well-known evaluator who in the past analyzed a lot of vintage pieces. It was just a regular day, and no one did know that there would be something special.
A Knowledgeable Person
He was perhaps the most knowledgeable assessor of drawings and sculptures in the Antiques Roadshow’s American edition and had many different meetings with auction houses. The kid who was carrying the frame was sitting across from the appraiser. Throughout the show, he was noticeably quiet. The specialist started his business after a couple of arrangements.
Budding Antique Trader
It was unbelievable that such a young boy was so curious about antiques. Even though he was unaware of how much the portrait was worth. As he appeared at the conference, the young visitor was happy. His hobby was the reason he got the opportunity to come to the show. Weiss was surprised when he learned that the boy had purchased a ton of antiques, not just a painting.

Passion For Antiques
Weiss was interested to know about other things that the young guest encountered, which encouraged him to collect antiquities. The appraiser was informed from his positive response that the boy had a passion for collecting antiques.

That’s why he was shocked at the next thing the boy told him.

In their interview, he was intrigued by the boy. He presumed that the young man liked to keep in his hands whatever antique he could find. However, the next thing he got from the visitor seemed far from what the specialist had expected.

Weiss was about to ask the boy a few questions about his sport. The young guest was questioned if he liked to retain the stuff he had from these sales. Weiss was deeply involved with the young man sitting right in front of him. In the field of antiques, he decided to know more about his background. The older appraiser had specific questions in mind and questioned the young man, “Have you made a lot of money selling silver, would you say?” Again, with his response to the query, the boy was able to inspire him. By informing Weiss that he had been out until September prior to selling the silver, the guest demonstrated a lot of experience in the area. Overall, that was because he anticipated that the stock price could change.
How the boy had a painting in his possession was the most interesting part. The appraiser sought to find out more about the boy’s appreciation of antiquity. He claimed that the boy had an asset in the yard sales, which the boy assumed had little significance to the matter.

He couldn’t find a lot of details about it, unfortunately, so he had to ask the pros for support.
A Significant Story
The youngster started to feel that when it was made, it would have a big plot. It was hard for the child to know where the picture came from. This was the reason he wanted to go to the Antiques Roadshow.
Is It Valuable?
The thing that the child held in the show looked like an ordinary painting for the spectators who watched, as well as for David. However, the assessor acknowledged that each item had a symbol that would signify whether or not it was worth it.

The boy stared at it before he took the drawing home with him and made an assessment of it. He realized that at the bottom of the painting, there was a message. Only part of the signature was, however, identified. Right then, Weiss knew the second part’s full name. It took him just a look to find out! Besides evaluating drawing, he decided to help the boy develop his abilities in the field. For this reason, the expert asked the young man to repeat what he had just said.
David really wants his image to be written about so that they could evaluate the painting of the child. He’d like the boy to explain what he could see and tell the history of the picture in the painting. David discovered that the young guest’s passion for the arts was real, and he was likely to become an appraiser of his thoughts as he got older.
The Painting By Albert Neuhuys
This took place before the painting that the boy had with him could be examined. Weiss needed to speak more about it first. He asked the young man to talk about his artwork as much as he could. After that, the specialist noticed that this was more than just a fleeting hobby for the boy in question. He might always say, in his opinion, that the young boy would make an outstanding assessor in the future. The boy, after all, was able to clarify the signature in great detail. He did not work out, however, what the first name of the artist was. This was when Weiss told him about his full name. It was Neuhuys Albert.
From The 19th Century
Albert Neuhuys was a great 19th-century Dutch painter. David Weiss clarified that this artist also created drawings portraying life at home. A fine illustration of this was the drawing the boy took to the exhibition. It was a scene about a mother and her children. At the Laren Academy, a colony of Dutch artists, the painter in question took up painting. He studied with the likes of Jozef Israel there. Neuhuys had to switch from a pastoral existence to a more industrial one. He did more art with as much zeal as he could after making this move.
Peaceful Daily Scenes
Albert Neuhuys was willing throughout his life to painting as frequently as he liked. It was truly his revenue source! He presented the daily home life of various people much of the time. This was the subject of the drawing the boy brought to the Antiques Roadshow, as you already know. It was a lovely piece of art depicting a weaving mother while her child was watching her work. The artist often preferred to paint domestic activities, such as farmers employed in the field, in rural settings. Many of his paintings are exhibited in art museums. How did one of them end up in this boy’s hands?
A Great Dutch Painter
It comes as no surprise that David comprehended more than the younger one did about the artwork and the creator. When you were analyzing an item, this was crucial. He talked about who Neuhuys was until his value was disclosed. “Neuhuys was a Dutch painter. He was born in 1844 and died in 1914. I believe your aquarium was actually made in the last quarter of the 19th century,” he said. The boy needed to know, before that point, how old this drawing was. It Was Not Even Close
“Hundreds of fifty bucks? “David Weiss echoed the young boy’s comment. Suddenly, the expert said, “I guess it’s worth a hundred and fifty. I believe it’s worth more than a hundred and fifty.” Considering this, the young man’s excitement did not change at all. He just let the assessor test the object a little bit further. Everyone present was anxious to learn what Weiss had to say about it. He said, “Today if your Albert Neuhuys aquarium comes to the sale. It’s possibly going to go for $1000 to $1500.” The boy couldn’t conceal his shock when he heard Weiss say, “Thousand.”
A Lot Higher Than He Expected
As a matter of truth, the teenage boy couldn’t even say anything other than “Woah.” This word fell out of his mouth when he finally understood how much that is worth. With his portrait evaluation, Weiss blew his mind! And if he didn’t think that was right, the expert assumed that the boy was a natural boy. Before he could reach the major leagues, of course, he always had a lot to practice. “This is a lot of capital!” The young boy responded. Who would have figured he might make a thousand bucks with a drawing he received for two dollars? David taught him a short lesson before the display came to a close.
A Bright Future Ahead Of Him
The boy was the youngest public figure to ever come to the program, which on its own is remarkable enough. David Weiss then told him, “So I think you have a wonderful future as an art dealer. You’re allowed to hold it.” We’re confident that the young man was moved to know such a thing. He said, “I know.” That wasn’t all of it! The youngster also said, “I hope I’m going to be wealthy.” The professional could not help but comply with that. Weiss told the young man, apart from that, that he was doing a decent job for his generation. As long as his innate ability was polished, he could make all his wishes come true!
