Leaving The Team
In the early years of the band’s existence, when Ted Healy maintained complete authority over the Stooges, the band’s professional life was fraught with challenges. Healy was an abrasive individual, and even though he had appointed Moe as the business manager of the trio, Shemp no longer had any fun. Shemp left the Stooges to pursue a career in the comedy film industry in Brooklyn.
The Replacement
Moe’s younger brother Curly took over for Shemp. Curly is the most outspoken and easily influenced member of The Three Stooges duo in their comedic short films. But in reality, Curly was a shy, reclusive man who preferred the company of dogs to that of human beings. As the years went on, the only time he acted like he did in the movies was when he was with the other Stooges or very drunk.
