Chico’s
This once-popular women’s clothing chain made a statement in March that it would close up to 100 Chico’s locations, 90 White House Black Market stores, and 60 Soma retail shops all over the country throughout the next three years. Though many of their stores are closing, they’re quickly realizing that the e-commerce world is where they really want to be, so they have started selling their clothing and accessories on Amazon.
Lowe’s
This home improvement retailer will shut down 51 of its stores throughout the United States and Canada in 2019. They will still have over 2,000 locations open between the two countries, but they’re definitely starting to visibly downsize. The company has stated that a lot of the closures are simply due to the fact that some stores were so close in proximity to one another that they both couldn’t successfully survive. These 51 store closures have resulted in thousands of employees being left without a job.
