Yet just before leaving the house, Malachi had a change of heart. No matter how hungry he was, using someone else’s money didn’t feel right. Perhaps the individuals at the booth would give him fruit gratis. It was at least worthwhile to ask. Malachi put the wallet away and proceeded to the counter.

A Kind Old Lady
A charming elderly woman welcomed him and inquired about his age and the reason for his solitude. Malachi was shrewd enough to tell her he was looking for someone instead of mentioning the wallet. He informed the woman he hadn’t eaten in a day and was famished, but he didn’t expect her response.
