April Ashley, a trailblazer, was born George Jamieson on April 29, 1935, in Liverpool, England. Despite being unwell as a youngster, she joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 16 in an attempt to follow in her father’s footsteps. After serving in the military, she followed her passion and relocated to Paris to work in the entertainment industry. She achieved popularity as a model and actress, and after saving enough money, she underwent gender transition surgery. Despite her desire to keep her transition private, a British magazine named Sunday People revealed her tale to the world. Initially, the news caused havoc in her life and profession, but as people recognized her truth, she became the face of the trans community in the United Kingdom.

Mimi became a woman at the age of 21 and entered the world of pageants, obtaining her first title as Ms. Waterloo in 1986. Despite the fact that Hollywood was calling her because of her grace and beauty, she continued to tour pageants and contests all over the world. Mimi has won Ms. Waterloo 1986, Miss International Queen Pattaya, Thailand, The World’s Most Gorgeous Transsexual Contest in Las Vegas, NV, and Miss Continental in Chicago, IL. She became the first openly transsexual runway model after signing a contract with the Ford Modeling Agency, in addition to all of her other titles.
