MEL GIBSON
Get ready because this is a little complicated. In 1956, Mel Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York. He spent his early years there but moved to Sydney with his family at the age of 12. His mother had Irish blood, which explains why he also holds Irish citizenship. For some time, he was actually called an Australian actor since that was where he launched his career. He only received attention on a more global stage when he appeared in Mad Max, which was taped in Australia! After that, it was easier for him to land more gigs in Hollywood projects. As we all know, he eventually started making films of his own. In the ‘80s, he started his very own production company: Icon Entertainment.
JOE STRUMMER
People often think that the capital of Turkey is Istanbul, but it is actually Ankara. This was the birthplace of Joe Strummer of Clash. Born John Graham Mellor, the singer-songwriter earned a special spot in the music industry. After all, the rock band was part of what people call the beginning of British punk rock. Give ‘Em Enough Rope, their second album, became the second best-selling album in the UK billboard charts. The band soon became popular in the United States after that, reaching the top spots across the pond as well. People loved the angst and audacity that went into their songs. They were truly iconic. Joe Strummer passed away in December 2002, but we are sure that his legacy will live on forever.
