It can be such a devastating sight when you encounter an animal in trouble. Rescue workers have a lot of challenges to tackle, but even so, they know that in the end, their hard work will pay off. Rescue groups such as Hope For Paws are organized to rescue and help rehabilitate strays. They hurried over to help when they received a call about a shepherd mix puppy.
It Was Cowering Beneath a Car
The rescuers from Hope For Paws got the call one rainy day. There was a stray breed, which seemed to be a German shepherd mix. It was all alone hiding under a vehicle, as far as possible avoiding human beings.
Try To Lure The Dog Out
Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte were two of the members who were assigned to the abandoned location. Eldad is the founder of the Hope For Paws organization. sThe goal of the group is to rescue poor stray animals that are in need across the city.
Avoiding Contact With Humans
They got a call about a stray dog that was hiding under a van to avoid contact with humans. Obviously, the dog was terrified and hesitant to come out of there. Loreta cautiously moved closer to allow the dog to see that she had some food.
Proceed With Caution
Loreta didn’t want to frighten the puppy, so she slowly approached her, trying to ensure the dog wouldn’t flee from her. They needed to help this stray dog, but they needed to be sure it wasn’t going to appear as offensive.
No, Thank You
It started crying the same way a human in pain would as Loreta got closer to the big but scared dog. Obviously, he was frightened. It was trembling as Loreta got closer. It looked like it was homeless and afraid of humans completely.
Never Heard Something Like It
In the video posted to YouTube by the organization, they state, “We thought she was hurt at first but she cried because she was so terrified.” As if that was not ample evidence of the unusual scream, the title of the video is “Homeless German Shepherd cries like a human!” I’ve never known such a thing!!!
Slowly But Surely
The dog refused and ignored the cheeseburger Loreta offered to it. But after a little while, the dog seemed calmer and weeped a little less. Eventually, she went for the cheeseburger and settled. Despite the good results, Loreta was still worried.
Nobody knows where the stray dog came from. They didn’t know its background so they weren’t sure how it reacts out of fear. Will it attack or become aggressive? Loreta still had to be careful and prioritize her safety before rescuing the dog.
Taking Baby Steps
In order to handle a frightened stray dog like this one, Loreta must have patience to take her time. Most especially, because this dog was big in size. There’s always a possibility that it would act aggresively out of fear.
They needed to think of a solution on how to lure the dog to come out while ensuring their safety as well. Most organizations that deal with stray animals have chosed to use a tool that can make it easier for them to capture the animal. This tool has a long rope and a loop at the end which is put around the dog’s neck gently.
Most of the time when dogs feel insecure or threatened by the situation, they react aggresively or even attack humans that got too close. Animals, especially stray dogs, tend to do these because it’s in their instinct to protect themselves from danger.
Good thing Loreta did not come to the site unprepared. She brought a cheeseburger to lure the dog out, just like how a fisherman would use bait to attract a fish. But the question is, will this plan work with this dog?
Not Interested In Her Cheeseburger
After a few moments, something unexplainable happened. Even though a delicious cheeseburger was offered to the dog and it appeared to like it, it chose to back away and headed back under the van where it was hiding. Normally, an animal would instinctively choose hunger over fear.
Scared & Wary
How afraid this dog must be! It seems like it was able to put its hunger aside because it was scared of its safety. Loreta was surprised about the dog’s reaction. It said no the cheeseburger, whereas if it were us, we would have munched on the food offering right away!
Much Longer Than They Expected
The rescue operation would be much easier if the dog is less afraid and more optimistic. Despite of this, eldad and Loreta was determined to win her over slowly. Taking it out of the van by force was out of the option.
Trying To Help
Loreta tried using the tool and put the lasso around the neck of the stray dog. However, she immediately took it away after seeing its response. It was very evident that this dog was scared of anything that was going near it.
Loreta did not want to make the situation worse and scare the dog even more than it already is. After taking away the lasso out of the dog’s sight, the dog ran and fled from the scene. Loreta was thinking of a new strategy. They need a new plan if they want this rescue mission to be a success.
Looking For A Safe Spot
The German Shephered mix probably figured that she would be safer in between the two buildings where she fled than the van she was hiding underneath. Once the rescuers caught up with her, Eldad acted quickly and thought of guarding the two openings of the area.
Bringing Her To Safety
Eventually, the dog would need to come out of this spot. By the time it comes out, Eldad and Loreta would be waiting at the opposite direction to take her to a shelter. It’s only a matter of time, but how long would it take? They both had to clear their schedules for the day and made time for this poor dog.
There For The Long Run
One exit was guarded by Eldad and on the opposite side was Loreta. They took a video of the whole rescue mission using their mobile phones. On the video, you can hear them talking to the dog. They were committed to rescue this dog no matter what it takes.
She Continued To Whine And Cry
The dog didn’t stop crying and wimping. But after a few minutes, it finally began to listen to Loreta who was softly pursuading here by sweet talking. It was truly devastating to hear the dog’s cry. What a poor big baby!
The dog suddenly had her ears down, implying that it is frightened of what’s happening. The two rescuers gave it the time it needs to calm down and recover from the fear the Lasso inflicted. At this point, the dog is starting to look scared less.
After the scared stray dog has relaxed, Loreta was able to put the Lasso gently around its neck. You can see that the dog is still a little anxious, but Loreta was glad that they were evantually able to get it out of that spot. Now, they just had to take it to the vet.
Slowly and cautiously, the two rescuers starting to coax the dog. They were putting in all their effort to avoid scaring the dog. The dog started walking with them, but slowly at first. Eldad and Loreta were able to stay patient with it. They allowed the dog to move at its own pace.
They kept reassuring the dog as best as they possibly could so that she would remain calm. To keep assuring the dog, they told her encouraging sweet words. Stray dogs can be very fragile, most especially when they’ve been through a lot of trauma.
Coaxing Her Out Of There
Because it was raining that day when that they found this adorable German Shepherd mix , they decided to call her Rain. The whole time they were coaxing her, she just kept her tail tucked between her legs, indicating of it’s insecurity. But atleast, they were making significant progress.
At long last, they were able to get the stray dog out of that area. Although you can see that it was still scared. Her tail was still stuck underneath her and she was still wimping and trembling while they were on the way to the car.
Finally Making Progress
Because of this, Eldad cautiously added another gentle leash around the dog’s neck. Then the two rescuers started to pet her to reassure the dog. Rain allowed the two to pet her. Surprisingly, she also agreed to go inside the cage they brought.
Even though they were already moving at a slow but steady pace, Rain still seem to look like she was unsettled. When Loreta and Eldad would think she has calmed down, she would suddenly wimp or yelp in fear and try to flee while crying.
Finally, Rain completely gave the two rescuers, Eldad and Loreta, the permission to pet her. This is a very huge progress, because Rain would not even let them near her at first. Rain finally allowed the two to bring her at their car.
Rain started cooperating and let the two lead him towards the car. However, you can see in her body language that she was still unsteady and insecure. She was still a little jumpy. She was not yet completely convinced that the two rescuers were not going to hurt her.
Finally, they were able to put Rain inside the cage. They can now transport her to the vet! They wanted to get her checked and ensure that she doesn’t have any sickness or injuries. She also desperately need a bath!
Seeing A Friendly Face
The concerned citizen who called Hope for Paws was named Carey Linnell. She was there waiting beside the cage and holding it open. When Rain saw her, she didn’t go directly inside the cage. Instead, she went to Carey’s arms and snuggled up to her! Wow!
It seems like the scared stray dog was used to Carey’s presence and trusted her. She easily allowed Carey to pet her without wimping or crying. Rain even went to her in her own will, as if she found safety in her arms.
Help However They Could
To us, it looked like the little dog was expressing her gratitude to Carey. This is a very precious moment for all of us. Carey, Loreta and Eldad never losed their drive the entire time they had been waiting for the dog to calm down. They were committed to help Rain in the best way they could.
They Couldn’t Believe It
Rain probably needed the assurance that everything would be all right and that she is in safe hands. After this, she went inside the cage on her own will. The three could not believe what they were seeing! What a progress!
Getting In The Cage
It surprised each of one of them that Rain willingly went straight inside the cage. They thought she was more comfortable and felt safer in a small place. Who knows what the scared dog were thinking? What matters is that she now a whole lot calmer.
Checking It Out
It could be because of the soft and comfortable pillow inside the cage, or meeting Carey again, but no matter the reason, Eldad and Loreta were very happy of what happened. Rain started to familiarize herself of the cage by sniffing around it while looking at the rescuers.
Once she was completely inside, it’s very evident of how comfortable and calm Rain was. She even looked happy. The sounds of her crying and wimping has also stopped. Loreta could not believe what took place in only just a few nerve-racking hours.
At this point, Rain even started to smile and wag her tail just a little bit. She can now understand that the two rescuers came to help her and not hurt her. Inspite of this, Eldad and Loreta continue to wonder what could have been done in her past that caused her to have great fear for humans.
After they were done carrying the cage inside the car, Rain looked curious. She was observing and sniffing around. She was investigating everything around her. But the important thing is that she looked more relaxed. She definitely know now that being inside the cage means safety.
Rain Got A Burger And A Bath
Finally, inside her cage, she got to eat her delicious cheeseburger and even wagged her tail a little more in response! She was healthy now, and she was happy to go to the vet. She’d get some TLC, enjoy her day at a doggie spa, and get more than enough Loreta cuddles.
Becoming A New Dog
After getting pampered and checked, Rain was prepared for her life’s new chapter. Rain deserves an opportunity to live in a cozy, caring home with a family who would care for her and keep her safe, just like any other pet.
She Enjoyed The Attention
Rain was a frightened dog earlier that day but it was almost as if, after having a bath and cuddles, she changed her into a whole new dog. She must have known that these people were not going to hurt her in any way.
A New Dog
This was definitely Rain’s first spa treatment, and she clearly enjoyed it! She let the suds stream down her nose and accepted her “masseusewarm “‘s water and gentle hands. When she was done, she was going to look like a whole new puppy!
Re-Learning The Ropes
It was clear that this dog had once been a pet, even though she didn’t have a chip. This indicated that the dog once experienced what it was like to live in a home and be with a family. But what kind of home has she been staying in?
Getting Used To TLC
It was pretty evident that Rain was re-adjusting to how it was before someone had to take care of her. The rescuers doubted, after all, that she would be so comfortable and optimistic just hours after meeting Lorta and Eldad.
All Rain wanted to do was cuddle up with Loreta and relax until she was all bathed and washed. She was suddenly behaving like a whole different dog. Rain has turned into a sweet and huggable dog in the hours she’s been at the vet.
For Rain to start adapting and relaxing, it just took hours. She transformed into a totally different dog. All it took was a cheeseburger and a good veterinarian’s medical wash. As soon as she felt healthy, Loreta could not believe how sweet the rain had become.
New Starts For Rain
Rain, the best is yet to come for him. Someone inquired about her two weeks later. Was this essentially the much-deserved opportunity for Rain to join a caring family with individuals who will take care of her and keep her safe?
