They went there to check out the business opportunities that Russia had in store for them. Ambassador Yuri Dubinin invited Donald Trump. In 1996, he attempted more deals in the Soviet country. For many years, Trump said that he did not have business connections there. However, this turned out to be false because Trump closed a deal to construct a building in Moscow last June 2016! He also received financial support from a Russian source when he dealt with bankruptcies in the ‘90s. Donald Jr. even claimed that Russia had a “pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. … We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

He has been a part of the New York elite for the longest time now, after all. He even appeared in a couple of films in the past and got to play himself most of the time. In 2003, NBC brought him in as the host of The Apprentice. The show was a huge hit, and it was where “The Donald” coined “You’re fired.” There is a spinoff series called The Celebrity Apprentice” as well.
