Despite the fact that The Tonight Show with Dick Cavett ended in 1986, various versions of the show continued to air periodically until 2007. Cavett has kept a low profile since then, making only the rare cameo appearance on television shows such as Gossip Girl and Children’s Hospital. Carrie Nye, Cavett’s wife of 42 years and the passion of his life, died of lung cancer in 2006.

After another year and a half had passed, Cavett wed the author Martha Rogers, and as of the year 2019, the couple has been residing in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Throughout the course of the film, Forrest Gump seems to have fortuitous encounters with some of the most significant characters in American history and also directly influences the acts that they take. For instance, Forrest’s mother entertains a young Elvis Presley, and in one scene, the young Presley can be seen playing the guitar for Forrest. Elvis Presley is said to have gotten his signature strut from seeing him dance.

It’s worth noting that Dobson’s likeness was the only one ever used for the part of Elvis. Kurt Russell himself provided the character’s voice, which was portrayed by another actor.
