You Were Never Really Here
This film traces the life of a hitman, played by Joaquin Phoenix, hired by a Senator to protect his daughter from great dangers. This may seem like a very familiar plot, but it is the execution and character motivation that makes it better than anything else. In the best way possible, Phoenix does an incredible job of balancing multiple types of personalities.

This 1630s movie is about a father and his family who have all been banished from a community in Puritan Plymouth and are trying to go out on their own to start a farm in a forest. When a member of their family disappears from nowhere, while trying to find him, the family has many problems ahead. The director, Robert Eggers, spent four years doing research to make the film as real as it could be.
