In ancient Mesopotamia, the Aqrabuamelu was a terrifying creature who was mentioned in the Babylonian creation myth. The creature was a cross between a scorpion and a man. It had a scorpion-like body but still had a human face, head, and torso. Aqrabuamelu had a hideous appearance, but they were made to confront the Gods. According to legend, Aqrabuamelu served as a guardian to alert travelers.
