Missing The Queen
One of the worst surprises that David found was that the pesticides had killed the queen bee. Without the queen bee, the other bees can’t live. The queen bee keeps the hive community together and encourages repopulation. This made David quite sad, but he wanted to keep some hope. He wasn’t giving up, and he thought maybe he could still help them. Could they survive without the queen, though?

When the queen bee is no longer alive in the hive, the bees usually tend to become aggressive and lash out on one another, but once David noticed these bees were not acting in such a way, he felt better about the situation. No bees died except the ones harmed by the pesticide, which was great news for both them and for David. He hoped he’d be able to relocate the bees properly.
