Dr. Kamrava and Nadya Suleman took a risky and unprecedented step. Although implanting so many embryos went against the standard medical practice, Nadya has no regrets. Many people would have been terrified, but she was ecstatic about it. Because the average woman only carries one or two babies to term, carrying eight to term puts Nadya’s body under a lot of strain. Soon after, the media picked up on her story, and Nadya and her children became celebrities. At this point, the moniker “Octomom” was coined. Although the news does not feature all California single moms, Octomom’s notoriety stemmed from the fact that her pregnancy was world-record-breaking.
