Lynda Carter

The original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, before saving the world and performing her superhero duties was also a pageant queen. Carter was crowned multiple times: as Miss Phoenix, Miss Arizona, and went on to be crowned Miss USA all in just 20 days. After being crowned Miss USA she jetted off to compete in the 1972 Miss World contest in London. The pageant world simply wasn’t for her she says she found the idea of it undermining for women in the 1970s as liberation was on the rise. Carter says being a pageant queen created quite the stigma for her to beat, well she beat it and acted in one of the strongest female roles she could have asked for at that time!
