He had an affair with model Lory Del Santo before marrying McEnery and while still with Boyd. She became pregnant and gave birth to Conor, her and Clapton’s son, in 1986. Connor died in 1991 after falling out of an open bedroom window on the 53rd floor of their apartment building.

Clapton was distraught when he lost his young son, and he ended up penning “Tears in Heaven” for him. Clapton stated in an interview with 60 Minutes that he saw his son the day before the incident. “When he was born, I was drinking, and he was actually the main reason I went back to treatment because I genuinely did love this baby,” he explained.
