Selleck ended up going on a sports scholarship to the University of Southern California. He started working on the side as a model. In fact, he was registered in Business Administration, but his drama trainer told him to keep acting. Unsurprisingly, Selleck took the advice and did study acting in Beverly Hills Playhouse’s Milton Katselas.

Remarkably, he served in the United States Army too. For quite a while, he was allocated to the 160th Infantry Regiment of the California Army National Guard. He also talked about the time he served, and he said, “I am a veteran, I’m proud of it. I was a sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We’re all brothers and sisters in that sense.”
