Spock’s skin was initially intended to be red in color. On televisions that only showed black & white images, Spock’s crimson makeup simply made him appear incredibly dark. The studio was concerned that it would come across as racist. As an added bonus, Nimoy would have to spend hours in the makeup chair before each performance.
SPACE HOPSCOTCH
Deep Space Nine is intended to be grittier than some of the other Star Trek adaptations. On the other hand, actor Avery Brooks (who played the no-nonsense Benjamin Sisko) remarked that there was some tom foolery in sequences that he didn’t like. It was a toss-up between two scenes that were his worst. One task required the team to sing a children’s song while playing hopscotch in order to unlock a locked door. The other is…
