Jonathan was intent on locating the puppy. He entered the woods while paying attention to the cries and taking deliberate, unhurried steps. When the dog’s cries finally ended, he believed he had misplaced it. When he heard the low whimpering again, Jonathan retreated a few paces for fear of approaching too far.

He ultimately located the small creature. A little patch of moss covered the ground, and a white infant monkey with undeveloped eyes was sleeping there. Jonathan bent over the helpless animal and scanned the area for other suitable puppies. In fact, they frequently arrived in groups. There was nothing there.
