There’s a reason hotels have cleaning staff, but that’s no justification to leave a room looking like a battle zone. Nonetheless, it remains one of the trademarks of an American tourist. If you’re going to completely destroy the place, perhaps leave a large tip for the cleaners. I know tipping is an American tradition, but I’m sure they’d be happy to make an exception in this sticky situation.

We’re not sure what it is about public spaces that causes Americans to lose all spatial awareness. Whatever the cause, you’re likely to see us occupying valuable real estate on crowded sidewalks and other places where people are rushing. However, we are also quite excellent at shouting at people who get in our way. This isn’t a big deal at home, but not everyone in the world is eager to yell at a stranger.
