Health Problems As A Teen
When she was 16 years old, Nicole started to notice tiny bumps that appeared on her skin. They started out in small spots and later spread to the rest of her body. She visited the doctor when she started experiencing fever and fatigue. There, they discovered that her eyes had turned jaundice as well. The doctor got her blood samples and found that she had a dangerously low level of platelets. The average adult has around 140,000 to 150,000 blood platelets, while she only had 8,000.
A Dangerous Autoimmune Disease
After her checkup, Nicole received a diagnosis for thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura or TTP. It was an autoimmune disease that could possibly be fatal. She was a young girl at the time, so she must have been shocked to hear her condition. The disease leads to blood clot formations around her body. She had to stay in the hospital to recover after the diagnosis. It was a good thing she reached the hospital in time for treatment. Who knows what could have happened otherwise?
