The Bearer of Bad News
When she found out that pregnancy would be dangerous to her health, Nicole headed home with a broken heart. When her husband came home, he could instantly tell that there was something wrong. Kevin recounted, “I got home from work and Nicole had that look on her face like something was wrong and I’m never going to forget it. I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ and she said, ‘The doctor doesn’t think we can have children.’ And you know, nobody wants to hear that.” She then elaborated on the risks and he understood.

A Risky Pregnancy
It was hard for Nicole to hear that even though she could conceive, the resulting pregnancy would only be risky for both her and the child. She said, “I was able to conceive, but I wouldn’t be able to have a healthy pregnancy. And it would result in death of myself or the baby.” There was no question that it was too dangerous for her to carry a child. The only thing to do then was to find an alternative way to achieve the dream she and Kevin shared.
