Slapstick
The sound effect used when characters slap each other isn’t meant to be taken literally, so don’t worry about it. Moe, who usually slaps people, felt the real thing wasn’t believable enough, so he substituted a sound effect. Moe actually slapping the other guys is even stranger.

Many people are unaware that the Three Stooges were nominated for an Academy Award. Now that comedy is one of the most glaringly ignored genres by the Academy, this seems impossible. Nominated in that year for their parody of the 1934 film starring Clark Gable and Myrna Loy, Men in Black. This was the only nomination the Three Stooges ever received, but it silenced their detractors.
