Cohn’s unfulfilled contract wasn’t the only reason the Stooges were underpaid for their popularity. When they first signed with Columbia, they were guaranteed a weekly salary of $1,000—a considerable coin in the 1930s. The two performers were shocked to learn that they would have to divide the $1,000 they had been promised as if they were a single act. Later in their careers, after receiving an Oscar nomination and beginning to earn $7,500 per week, they still had to divide it equally.

Improvised Acting

In many of the films starring The Three Stooges, there is a skit in which Curly is seen acting crazed and running in circles. This particular gag was included on purpose in later scripts due to the fact that audiences found it to be so funny. However, in the beginning, it was entirely improvised in order to accommodate the times when Curly forgot his lines.
