Clapton engaged in this technique for more than a year, culminating in a tour of Australia in the fall of 1987, at a time when he was at the height of his powers. In an interview during which he couldn’t keep his hands from trembling, Clapton admitted that his binge drinking had reached a breaking point, which he attributed to the pressures of his demanding work schedule. Not only was he unable to perform successfully without a drink, but he was also unable to function correctly with one. As far as his artistic pursuits were concerned, his financial situation was precarious; he was barely making ends meet at the time. If this pattern continues, the entire globe will almost certainly come crashing down.
