Bibiana Fernández
Born Manuel Fernández Chica, this Spanish actress began hormone treatment as an adult and changed her name to Bibiana after undergoing sex reassignment surgery in 1991. She made her cinematic debut in Vicente Aranda’s Cambio de Sexo, which translates to Sex Shift, after appearing in local cabarets in Barcelona. Cambio de Sexo, as well as her performance, received critical acclaim. Bibiana starred in a number of television episodes before beginning to work with film director Pedro Almodovar, who cast her in some of her most famous roles. Her most well-known roles are Matador, Rowing With the Wind, and Law of Desire.

This French performer got it exactly right. Marie Pierre Pruvot, born on November 11, 1935 in Algeria, was destined for the stage. Pruvot, who went by the stage name Bambi, spent over two decades performing in a transsexual showgirl revue at Le Carrousel de Paris. Because she was on stage for so long, she was featured in a number of documentaries about gender and entertainment, including one titled Bambi after her. Apart from her career on stage, Marie studied at the Sorbonne and earned two degrees in education.
