Trace Lysette Acted Alongside J-Lo
Trace Lysette moved to New York after becoming estranged from her original family due to her gender change and discovered a new family in the underground ball culture scene (a youthful African-American and Latin American underground LGBTQ+ subculture). She then pursued acting training and made her television debut in 2013 with a cameo appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Lysette has since acted in the film Hustlers, alongside Jennifer Lopez. She has also been in the acclaimed TV show Transparent and has worked on other documentaries.
Laverne Cox Tells Her Story Without Hesitation
When she played the hairdresser in the popular series Orange Is the New Black, the public first met Laverne Cox. Her character in the sitcom is likewise trans, and Laverne’s twin brother played Sophia before she transitioned. Laverne has made tremendous impacts in the trans and LGTBQ+ communities since then. Laverne began modestly; raised by a single mother, she was tormented in school, and teachers were concerned that she required counseling. Nonetheless, as a young adult, Cox worked as a waiter before becoming a drag queen. She is now quite well-known and continues to fight for transgender persons.
