Rose took a better look at the insect and saw that it was actually a mosquito. She gripped it between her forefinger and thumb to look at it closely. She grazed the canvas with a knuckle. Her heart was starting to beat really fast. She left the mosquito on the flowers and put the glass back on top of the piece. Later, she shared, “I took it out to the front yard and I opened it up to get the mosquito out so I could take it with me to college, and then it kind of scared me a little. I closed it back up immediately because it looked like it might be real.” The truth about it only came out when she spoke to the appraiser.
