A scary sound
Abby was the only person who could hear him, and the only sound that she could occasionally make out was him laughing. The only person who could hear him was Abby. It was difficult to hear what he was saying. If he appeared to be having such a good time with his wife and kid, there is no logical explanation for why he would hide his actions from them.
When her father abruptly stopped speaking, another sound echoed through the walls as Abby prepared to meet her father at the door by pounding on it. “Dad,” she cried back, adding, “I’m going to get you.”
Running inside
The second sound was anything but peaceful, and it was extremely unnerving. As a result of this, Abby felt a tingling feeling that traveled all the way down her spine. She dashed back inside as soon as she heard the noise, and she didn’t think twice about carefully closing the door on her way in because she didn’t want to linger outside near the shed for any longer than absolutely necessary.
She sprinted as swiftly as she could up the stairs, and she dove into bed at precisely the same moment that the door slammed shut behind her.
