Kim Novak
Kim Novak was actually recruited by Colombia Pictures to initially replace Rita Heyworth who had suffered a decline in popularity during the 1950s, as well as to compete with 20th Century Fox’s Marilyn Monroe. Novak really secured her place in the industry when she featured in the Hitchcock film, Vertigo, but since the 1960s she only featured in a number of productions, and officially retired in the early 1990s. She announced that she was battling cancer in 2010, which she later overcame.
Claudia Cardinale
Italian-Tunisian actress Claudia Cardinale’s career really began when she won first place in the “Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia” competition. The competition took her to Italy, where she struggled with the language because her parents spoke Sicilian which is different from Italian, but her beauty got her various acting and modeling roles over the years. During the early years, in particular, her voice was dubbed over because of her accent and husky voice. Today, Cardinale is known for speaking out for women’s rights and, in the year 2000, became a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the cause.
