Written by Diane Lake, Clancy Sigal, Anna Thomas, and Gregory Nava, and directed by Julie Taymore, Frida focuses on the professional life as well as the personal struggles of one of the 20th century’s most famous artists. Salma Hayek plays Frida Kahlo, and her performance in the film is still considered her best. The film is based on Hayden Herrera’s biography of Kahlo. Frida depicts the famously dysfunctional relationship between the artist and Diego Rivera and the painful personal drama that she went through.

The Report (2019)
This overlooked gem from 2019 is based on the groundbreaking CIA report leak about the agency’s controversial conduct after 9/11. In spite of its standout performances and timely subject matter, The Report didn’t do so well at the box office. Adam Driver showed a sturdy and steered performance playing a Senate employee who was tasked with exposing the 6,000+ page report. We are reminded by the movie why he is one of the best actors of today.
