Julie & Julia (2009)
Julie & Julia tells the true story of how author Julie Powell and cooking expert Julia Child managed to conquer not only French cooking but also other hardships after Powell decides to cook all of the recipes in Child’s cookbook titled, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. Nora Ephron wrote and directed this movie, which won a Golden Globe. In real life, Child wasn’t really fond of Powell because the author “wasn’t a serious cook” and swore too much.
Serpico (1973)
One year after garnering massive acclaim for his role in The Godfather, Al Pacino played cop Frank Serpico in this Sidney Lumet-directed feature which follows the journey of the NYPD officer with the corrupt police force. The film was a big hit with audiences and critics alike, having a box office gross of almost $30 and a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. Al Pacino’s performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
