Disaster Ensued
A power surge induced by the safety test resulted in an explosion. Radiation was discharged into the sky, killing two individuals instantaneously. More than 300,000 people were evacuated from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, which is still in use today. People have suffered from a variety of health issues as a result of the disaster, including cancer and acute radiation syndrome.

Radiation has had serious health consequences for those living near the catastrophe site, particularly pregnant women. Babies were born with additional or missing limbs, and the number of genetically linked birth abnormalities increased by 250 percent overall.
