After her class at the University, when Reba was not doing any assignment or needed to study for a particular subject, Reba would do something related to music. However, Reba wanted to follow the footsteps of her mother and to become an elementary school teacher, but there were many trials she faced that made her walk into the path she did not desire.

It was 1974 when her life was changed. At that point in her life, she was assigned to sing the national anthem for the National Rodeo located in Oklahoma City. Her performance was noticed by another country music star named Red Steagall. He was performing at the event when he was astonished by the performance of Reba. It was the start of her career in the music industry when Red helped her in Nashville. She produced her demo tape and also signed a contract with Mercury Records after she entered her music career.
