A cot, a stack of blankets, and a tiny table with a few stray belongings were all present. A half-eaten sandwich and a stack of books were also visible to David. It was obvious that someone had been residing here and that they weren’t just an unauthorized occupant. This was astounding.

David remained downstairs for a little while longer to explore. What he discovered shocked and horrified him in equal measure. He abruptly heard the floorboards in the upper room creak. He noticed a shadowy figure moving as he peered up the steps. But as he prepared to sprint up the steps, something unexpected happened.
