Two Different Awards
Tom Cruise made Hollywood history by being the first actor to star in both a Best Picture nominee for the Academy Awards and a Worst Picture nominee for the Razzie Awards. This occurred in 1988, when Cruise starred in two films that were up for Best Picture at the Oscars: “Rain Man” and “Cocktail.” While “Rain Man” won the coveted prize, “Cocktail” was named the Worst Picture of the Year at the Razzie Awards. Cruise’s brilliance and star power remained undisputable despite the conflicting results.
Keeping it Lowkey
Despite his enormous fame, Tom Cruise has never given the go-ahead for a doll, action figure, or computer game to be developed in his likeness. Since many other celebrities have allowed their likenesses to be turned into toys or video game characters, this choice is unique. Curiously, the character based on Cruise in the video game “Minority Report” looked so unlike him that it was even depicted with blond hair. It has been suggested that Cruise may be especially conscious of his image and desire to keep some degree of control over his public character.
