Going Too Far
He was completely livid as he marched back up his driveway. The things he had seen in his lifetime, and especially as a cop, but this had caused a different kind of rage within him. What his neighbors had done was simply inexcusable. As he tightened and squeezed his hands into fists, clawed into his palms to release the slightest bit of his frustration. He ground his teeth and said under his breath, “This is war.” His next-door neighbors may have thought that they had got the best of him but they had not the slightest clue what was in store for them.
The Officer Of The Law
David Ellis resides in a quaint and secluded neighborhood. He is a police officer who has dedicated his life to public service for 40 years in the Los Angeles Police Department. Now being in his later years of life he spends his weekend time relaxing, and with spades and garden tools rather than a gun. Ellis saw to his garden with passion and care, it was a wonderful hobby of his. However, something that would happen in his garden would soon be the reason to infuriate this usually polite and relaxed man.
The Last Straw
On weekends, David would cut, shape, and style his cypress trees. These trees had been on the property for years and stood next to the fence that enclosed his home. Gardening on the weekends was an escape for David, something that eased his mind after a week of crime-fighting and law enforcement. It took a matter of minutes for a rash neighbor to ruin his weekend activity. David and his neighbors were all acquainted with one another as they had been in a disagreement for a couple of years now. David felt that he had been understanding but this was the cherry on top!
The Crux Of The Drama
The root of all the commotion was focused around a gravel road, this proud again surrounded David’s home. David had taken initiative in mending the potholes which had seemed to have formed out of the blue. This was something he had been doing for years. As the thoughtful neighbor he was, he was concerned that they might be the root of an accident and he certainly did not want to see anyone harmed. Instead, his neighbors had another idea…
“A Complete Nutjob”
David’s very own daughter explained, “Everybody here is a complete nutjob.” She said there had been a constant dispute between the neighbors and her dad. His daughter had pleaded with him to devise a plan that would put an end to this unnecessary drama. However, instead of simply being appreciative of David taking initiative to ensure no accidents would be happening, his spiteful neighbors wanted to take full advantage of the situation.
Passing The Responsibility
On the other hand, the unappreciative neighbors are accusing David of being the reason that the road needs to be tarred. How is this fair? The entire complex and all of the families that live in it, use the road so why does David need to be the one who is footing the bill? Instead of giving him a piece of his mind, David devised an even better plan. He had a compromise, after all, he was a level-headed kind of guy.
A Gesture Of Goodwill
David wanted to please his neighbors and thus, offered them 3-square-feet of his property so that they could make the sharp turn involving his property easier for anyone coming through the residential area. However, the ungrateful neighbors tossed his thoughtful gesture right out. This was not even the worst of what had happened but the beginning of what was about to push David over the edge, what had caused this incredible fist-wrenching rage.
Enough Is Enough
After David forfeited that 3-feet of his land, he watched in disbelief when drivers came closer and closer to his property. As days passed and he witnessed this, one day he was pushed to the brink, this is when he snapped. One of David’s neighbors had wood delivered to their house, an entire truck of wood. Upon delivery, the truck driver tried to cut the corner when he approached it a tad to wide and went straight over David’s fence. Of course, the damage needs to be paid for but no one was offering. He was absolutely livid!
Protecting What Was His
“We had to replant these plants and place a new metal fence,” Miha, David’s daughter, said. “My father told me this was not the first time this happened, but actually the third. I couldn’t believe it when I heard this.” The police officer patched up and fixed his metal fence as needed to be done, but it was time for him to safeguard what was his, no matter to what extent he had to do this. His neighbors had taken it a step too far.
Inspecting The Damage
As he sussed out the damage done, he marched back to his home, he was fuming. This was the last straw, war was upon them. David had gone above and beyond for his despicable neighbors, he was finished and felt taken advantage of now. He snapped. David had noticed that one of his beloved cypress trees had been plowed. Oh, he was en route revenge.
A Series Of Barrels
David decided to stack barrels around his property on his specific part of his land where they had been allowed o drive on. Well, it was his property at the end of the day. The barrels seemed as if they were empty, plastic barrels- there to serve as a simple barrier. The residents of David’s neighborhood would soon find out that these were no ordinary plastic barrels, oh, and they were in for a surprise.
Early one morning, a sudden loud knocking on the door woke David from his sleep. His neighbor was standing at the door angrily, he had damaged his car when ramming into one of the barrels. The barrels were filled with rocks. Well, the neighbor was not done he threatened the fresh-faced and nervous policeman. The neighbor said that he should be aware as he might get a “pickaxe to the back.” As an enforcer of the law, David calmly explained that he could do as he pleased as the land was his. But, his plan hit a bump in the road…
Thinking Up Other Ways
Despite the big hurdle, David noticed that the barrels were being struck often and by tons of drivers. The barrels had become useless and torn apart. David was now thinking up a plan to hinder these unthoughtful drivers for one and for all. It had now become more than just about his property but it had become about respect. David was devising a plan that would get him the well-earned respect that his neighbors should have always shown him.
Petty Revenge Turning Pro
The first of the residency who happened to be driving home that evening was in for a sweet surprise. Under the impression that David still allowed people to cut across the property he did so, he did this without a worry for the new freshly planted flowerbed that has now been ruined by his tires. Well, this driver found himself and his insurance company having a rather unfortunate phone call that evening. David had taken his revenge to the next level.
Cement And Poles
On the Reddit thread r/ProRevenge, Miha said, “My dad was furious.” Miha went on, “He cut some wood to use it as a mold. He bought cement, sand, and metal poles.” She then explained, “One peaceful afternoon, my father and I cemented that whole part of the land and placed some lovely flowers on top.” If this was not a professional job we do not know what is, the best part is that David had his daughter help.
The New Solution
The disobedient neighbor came across David’s newest trap and invention to ward off any future fence wreckers. David had camouflaged a little concrete wall under a new flowerbed on that specific corner of his property, the corner where his neighbors were acting incautiously. It worked! The rest of the neighborhood residents would not be able to harm his home any longer. However, it did take the neighbors a while before they caught on.
A Lesson Learned
It turns out that five of the residents in the area had an encounter with David’s new device, his fully legal wall, the drivers could not do anything about the wall or what he had done. Thus, they eventually learned to take the corner with ease, and steer clear of David’s property. His neighbors also stopped approaching him in order to complain. There was just one neighbor who could not let it go, he decided to send his lawyer to do some digging around the grounds.
A few of the five neighbors had done a great deal of damage to their cars, this caused insurance claims which needed David to prove his innocence. This was no big deal, naturally, he had done nothing illegal and he simply proved the property was his. So he did, he showed the lawyers that it was his property and thus perfectly legal. After the story was shared on Reddit, users were extremely pleased with the story and result.
A specific user wrote, “I’m very amused by the logic some people go by.” They went on, “For example If I intentionally hit your property and it damages my vehicle, it’s still your fault (the owner of the property) for trying to protect your property and not letting me just destroy your property… and you should compensate me for the damage caused by my stupidity.”
An additional user wrote, “They ran over your trees? OHHH BOY.” They then said, “If they run over any more of your trees look up your local laws about trees. People have been sued for TONS of money over the destruction of trees because they take so long to grow so they have a lot of value.” What is your opinion? Do you think the action David took is fair and necessary?
