Lunch With Pattie
Clapton had determined that the first person he needed to see was, without a doubt, his ex-girlfriend, Pattie, and so he set up a meeting with her to discuss his situation. His curiosity was piqued as to if there was still a glimmer of hope, even if it was simply a friendship, after they had ended their relationship under the most worst of circumstances. The two of them went out to lunch together and had a great time together. Clapton harbored no ill will toward him, and the two of them were able to talk frankly and fairly; he was pleased that they had the opportunity to do so during their time together.

Having something to do is always beneficial for recovering addicts, and Clapton had to get to work right away on a project that had began in January 1987 and had to be completed by the end of the year. Eric had pledged to perform six shows in the Royal Albert Hall in London over the course of six consecutive nights, and he had delivered on his promise. Steve Ferrone and Phil Collins on drums, as well as Mark Knopfler on guitar, were among the musicians who joined him for the performance. Nathan East and Greg Phillinganes from the August sessions were also there. They were such a hit with the audience that they became a regular part of the program.
