The Crown is one series that actually mentions Prince Philip and his life in more depth than any other show or movie has before. What an interesting life he has had indeed. In the first two seasons, the Duke of Edinburgh is played by Matt Smith and he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his performance too. The actor has a past of playing characters based on characters in real life, however, he does look like the Prince.

The swap over in season three of cast members brought about Tobias Menzies to play the Duke of Edinburgh. He and Prince Philip do have feature similarities that’s for sure. A supporting role but an important one based on a complex character, he did it well. he was not the obvious choice for the role but both from the casting side, and Tobias’ said it was just a good fit and was perfect for the role. He spent 90 minutes every day in order to look the part.
