The Diving Bell And The Butterfly (2007)
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly centers around Jean-Dominique Bauby, a former Elle Magazine editor-in-chief. At age 43, Bauby has a stroke, and though it doesn’t kill him, it is still debilitating. The only way he can communicate is by blinking one eye since the rest of Bauby is paralyzed. Empire describes the film as “a true cinematic experience.” The Diving Bell and the Butterfly depicts how Bauby dictated his memoirs, painstakingly.
Bombshell (2019)
Nicole Kidman plays former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson in Bombshell. Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie also star as Fox anchors, who attempts to take on Roger Ailes (portrayed by John Lithgow), the network’s fearsome head. The true story centers around his pattern of sexually harassing Fox employees. The women risk (and lose) their careers standing up to Ailes, and they come out victorious, in spite of a media onslaught. The film shows their journey to take the powerful media mogul down. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Theron’s portrayal as Megyn Kelly.
