Captain Phillips (2013)
Captain Phillips tells the story of Maersk Alabama, which is a ship that got hijacked in 2009. The head of the ship, Captain Richard Phillips, was taken hostage. The hijackers were pirates who came from the Guardafui Channel, which is located near the coast of Somalia, and their leader was Somali Abduwali Muse. Tom Hanks stars as Richard Phillips, who does his best to keep his crew safe from the invaders. With a box office gross of $218.8 million, the 2013 movie won a Writer’s Guild Award and a BAFTA. Barkhad Abdi plays Abduwali Muse.
The Aviator (2004)
In The Aviator, Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Howard Hughes, a billionaire tycoon that made his fortune from aviation. In addition, he was a director and the ex-husband of Katharine Hepburn and Ava Gardner. Aside from directing major films like Hell’s Angels Hughes, he also made TWA into a major airline. However, Hughes struggled with severe depression and debilitating phobias in private. The more success he had in his career, the worse his mental condition became. DiCaprio’s portrayal of the tormented billionaire earned him an Oscar nod. The film had a $110 million budget and Martin Scorsese signed on to direct it.
