Goodfellas (1990)
Directed by Martin Scorsese, this incredible true crime film is based on the known mafia associate Henry Hill’s life and crimes. Ray Liotta portrayed the film’s main character (though Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro steal the show). The screenplay is based on Nicholas Pileggi’s book titled, “Wiseguy”. Goodfellas was produced for $25 million in the late ‘80s and was distributed by Warner Bros. Not only was it a box office success, earning $46 million, but it also cemented itself in pop culture and has become a pillar of movie culture.
The Crown (2016)
The Crown is one series gaining a lot of attention as a Netflix original. The historical drama delves into the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. It follows the life of Queen Elizabeth from the 1940s up until today’s modern-day and age. Claire Foy starred as the Queen in the first two seasons. She played the young Queen Elizabeth II and received a Primetime Emmy Award for being an Outstanding Lead Actress Under the Drama Series category.
