Seabiscuit (2003)
Seabiscuit centers around a businessman trying to cope with the passing of his son. Tobey Maguire stars as Red Pollard, a horse jockey with a long history of bad injuries. Pollard teams up with a horse trainer and the businessman to train the racehorse Seabiscuit, whom everyone else believed was too temperamental and small to race. The horse initially loses a series of matches until the training works, and Seabiscuit becomes one of the racehorses that are the most successful in history. The film was released in 2003, winning an award from the American Society of Cinematographers. Gary Ross directed the movie and wrote its screenplay.
Fearless (2006)
Directed by Ronny Yu, Fearless tells the story of Chinese martial arts master Huo Yuanjia, the founder of Jin Wu Sports Federation. The films chronicles how Yuanjia (played by Jet Li) becomes a national hero in China. He challenged and battled foreign fighters in highly-publicized events. Yuanjia’s winning streak brought pride and nationalism back to China, which was having a hard time shaking off Western imperialist forces as well as dealing with Japanese manipulation towards the latter part of the Qing dynasty.
