Gia (1998)
Gia was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe (of which it won). Angelina Jolie stars as Gia Carangi. Wanting to become a supermodel, Gia moves to New York City. She meets an agent, who helps her become famous. However, Gia’s life spins out of control after she gets addicted to drugs. Directed by Michael Cristofer, this made-for-TV movie is a historical drama and it was first released in Germany in September 1998 before being released in America. Faye Dunaway played Gia’s agent, Wilhelmina Cooper.
I Shot Andy Warhol (1996)
Directed by Mary Harron, the 1996 film I Shot Andy Warhol tells one of the most shocking and lurid stories from artist Andy Warhol’s life. Lili Taylor portrays Valerie Solanas, a writer who moves to New York and meets Andy Warhol. Solanas tries to get Warhol to produce Up Your A**, a play that she wrote, but Warhol refuses. She was already unstable, and his refusal leads to her becoming a deranged assassin. Everything culminates in Solanas shooting Warhol at point-blank range. The movie received nominations for an Indie Spirit Award and a National Society of Film Critics Award.
