I Shot Andy Warhol (1996)

Directed by Mary Harron, the 1996 film I Shot Andy Warhol tells one of the most shocking and lurid stories from artist Andy Warhol’s life. Lili Taylor portrays Valerie Solanas, a writer who moves to New York and meets Andy Warhol. Solanas tries to get Warhol to produce Up Your A**, a play that she wrote, but Warhol refuses. She was already unstable, and his refusal leads to her becoming a deranged assassin. Everything culminates in Solanas shooting Warhol at point-blank range. The movie received nominations for an Indie Spirit Award and a National Society of Film Critics Award.
