JFK (1991)
Acclaimed cinematographer Oliver Stone directed the historical drama JFK. The film details the investigation of President John F. Kennedy’s shooting. The investigation is led by New Orleans DA Jim Garrison (played by Kevin Costner), who closes the case and names Lee Harvey Oswald as the suspect. However, conspiracy theorists think Oswald may not actually be the shooter. The film explores the reopening of the investigation by Garrison and the government resistance that he met while he was untangling the conspiracy. Produced by Warner Bros., the movie won Best Cinematography at the Oscars.
Escape From Alcatraz (1979)
Escape from Alcatraz chronicles the escape of a prisoner from Alcatraz Island, which is a maximum-security prison considered to be impenetrable. Sentenced to life in Alcatraz, Frank Morris was an inmate on the island. Even though he wasn’t really a depraved or violent criminal, he was sent to Alcatraz because he had escaped from prison several times. It was assumed that Morris couldn’t escape Alcatraz, but the movie shows why they were wrong. This thriller is based on the non-fiction book written by J. Campbell Bruce. The movie stars Clint Eastwood as Morris and Don Siegel signed on to direct it.
