Raging Bull (1980)

This true sports drama stars Robert DeNiro as boxer Jake La Motta and netted De Niro an Academy Award for Best Actor. La Motta, a middleweight boxer, rose through the ranks and gained a chance to fight for the middleweight title. Raging Bull depicts the life story of La Motta in and out of the ring out, specifically his romantic relationship with Vicky La Motta (portrayed by Cathy Moriarty). The boxer’s inability to express his feelings and substance abuse later catch up with him, which makes this film kind of a bummer. The director is Martin Scorsese, and Joe Pesci also plays a part in it.
