Born on the Fourth of July stars Tom Cruise as Ron Kovic, a teenager from New York who joined the Marines because he felt it was his duty as a citizen of America. During his second tour of duty in Vietnam, he killed his platoonmate by accident. He was also permanently paralyzed later on the second tour. This film depicts Kovic as a Marine who later becomes an impassioned anti-war critic. It also gives a look at the Veterans Administration as a useless bureaucracy which cares more about money than providing help to veterans.
