Radioactive (2019)
Rosamund Pike played Marie Curie in this biographical movie about the life of the scientist who discovered the elements radium and polonium. Much of the film focuses on Curie’s relationships with her husband and her colleague Paul Langevin (portrayed by Aneurin Barnard). In addition, Radioactive focused on the impacts of Curie’s work, such as atomic bombings, brachytherapy, Chernobyl, the Manhattan project, and other events. This movie had a box office gross of $1.2 million.
Judy (2019)
The biographical drama Judy stars Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland. The movie follows the famous singer/actress’s later career, when Garland moved to England. The film also flashes back to her years as a teen, including the famous role she played in The Wizard of Oz. Major publications, such as the The New York Times, gave Judy glowing reviews. The final years of Garland’s career were marked with tragedy and health issues, something that the film unflinchingly covered. As for Zellweger, her performance in the movie earned her an Oscar, BAFTA, SAG, and Golden Globe.
